Baptism for Ages 5 to 17

Children and teenagers who are seeking to be baptized and who are between the ages of 5 and 17 years old must register for Religious Education and take the religious instruction classes. There is a sign-up in May and classes begin in September with classes on Sunday mornings. Below is some of the information you will need when your child or teen is registered in the program.   • Child or teen’s birth certificate number
  • Date and place of birth
  • Parish registration information for the family
  • Godparent’s name (s)

Godparent Requirements

  • Only one Godparent is required.
  • You may not have more than two Godparents.
  • If there are two Godparents, one must be female and the other male.
  • Godparents may not be the natural father or mother of the child.
  • Godparents must be at least 14 years old.
  • Godparents must be baptized or a confirmed member of the Catholic Church.
  • A baptized non-Catholic Christian may act as a witness.
  • Non-baptized persons may not officially act as a sponsor or witness.
