Reconciliation

(for those already Baptized)

The Catholic Church generally recognizes other Christian faith baptisms and therefore the rite of Baptism need not be repeated. However there are certain baptisms the Church does not consider valid. Our faith formation director will let you know if you are uncertain about your previous baptism. For those who are seeking to become Catholic Christians, and have already been baptized with a valid Christian baptism, the next step in becoming a full member of the Catholic Church is to enroll in the faith formation program known as RCIA – Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. Baptized Christians in the RCIA program are known as candidates.

The formation process for candidates is different than the process for catechumens (those who have not been baptized). For candidates (already baptized), Reconciliation (confession) is required before a candidate can receive Confirmation and First Communion. Since Confirmation and First Communion for candidates takes place on the Sunday following the Easter Vigil, Reconciliation is to be received prior to these sacraments.

If you have not yet been baptized, more information about the baptism process at St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church can be found here: Baptism
